Our History
From the President: The beginning of Cornejo & Sons, Inc.
|
It was in 1952 driving down K-42 highway Jess Cornejo noticed a man tending to a broken down 1936 Ford truck. Being the kind of man Jess was - who could not pass by a fellow in need - he pulled over.
When he drove away, he was the owner of a $300.00 1936 Ford truck and the newly formed Jess Cornejo Trucking Company as well as a very upset wife concerned about how they were going to pay for it.
Over the years, there were many businesses and divisions developed such as Casa Fiesta in 1966 - a tortilla factory that manufactured food products that were shipped throughout the U.S. and later sold to S & W Foods out of California.
In 1981 Cornejo Waste Systems was formed by the purchase of one roll off container truck and 4 dumpsters to complement our Demolition Division. By 1988 the division grew to be the largest waste hauler in the state of Kansas. As a result of this success, BFI Browning Ferris Industries, a national concern purchased the division.
Jess and Josephine have five sons. Ron, Don, Richard, Jerry, and Marty who since the passing of their father in 1994 have continued to carry on the business that was started with just one truck and a truckload of determination, hard work and dedication to the job and the customer.
